Very good spring football game for Hialeah Gardens against (Fort Lauderdale) Northeast
Junior running back and defensive back Dannyal Leiva was outstanding as Hialeah Gardens defeated (Fort Lauderdale) Northeast 52-6 in a spring football game.
On offense, Leiva had 18 rushes for 183 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he recorded five tackles, an interception, a caused fumble, and a sack.
Junior Zerek Marquez contributed leadership on the offensive line as the Gladiators rushed for 351 yards and five touchdowns on 61 attempts. Marquez, also a linebacker, led the defense with eight tackles and an interception (15 yards) for a touchdown.
Sophomore QB Marcos Fernandez totaled three rushing touchdowns. On defense, he played linebacker and returned a fumble 42 yard for a touchdown. He also made five tackles and a sack.

Nominees for Miss Flag Football include: 2A: Sydney Ford, Junior, Quarterback/Linebacker, Western (completed 330-of-478 passes for 3,783 yards with 60 TDs and 11 interceptions. Rushed for 231 yards on 26 carries (8.9 average) with four touchdowns. On defense, made seven interceptions).
1A: Alexandra Harris, Sophomore, Wide Receiver/Linebacker, Edison (totaled 1,600 receiving yards with 22 touchdowns. On defense, had 50 sacks and 15 interceptions with five returned for touchdowns).
Nominees for Coach of the Year: 2A: James O’Brien, Western (finished with a 17-1 record after dropping a 20-19 decision to Newsome in the state championship game. Team posted 11 shutouts during the regular season. In 11 years has a career record of 112-20).
1A: Vincent Hall, Edison (compiled an 11-2 record and advanced to the state Final Four with a 14-player roster. In six years has compiled a 60-5 record).

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This is the 29th year of these unique awards as they honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports.
The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
