Palmetto wins Dog Pound Boys’ Volleyball Tourney at Braddock; plus more preps results

Palmetto captured the Gold Bracket Championship at the Dog Pound Boys’ Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Braddock High School.

The Panthers beat Miami High in two sets for the championship, giving the Stingarees their first loss of the season.

Palmetto and Miami High escaped match points during pool play against Braddock and St. Brendan, respectively.

Braddock captured the Silver Bracket Championship by beating Hialeah Gardens in two sets.

The event featured 20 matches in two days.

Gulliver water polo

Goalie Kamal Kay-Ramos led his team defensively with eight blocks (including stopping a penalty shot) and recorded four steals as the unbeaten Gulliver Prep boys’ water polo team defeated Belen Jesuit 18-6 in the region finals.

Awwal Kay-Ramos led field players with three goals, four steals, five assists. As well as dominating defensively. Jr Bailey Quintero had three goals, an assist and two steals. Senior co-Captain JC Pompa added three goals and an assist.

Bruno Rebessi contributed four assists, two goals and a steal and drew numerous exclusions. Co-Captain Hayaat Kay-Ramos and Jero Decharry each scored twice.

Gulliver Prep (22-0, undefeated the past two seasons) plays St. Thomas Aquinas in the state semifinal on Friday at Belen. The state finals are Saturday also at Belen.
