Ransom Everglades boys’ tennis edged Gulliver and the girls beat International Studies
The Ransom Everglades boys’ tennis team won a big match Monday, besting Gulliver Prep 4-3.
Junior Dylan Kauffmann and sophomore Ian Barnett clinched the tight contest by winning at No.2 doubles.
The Raiders feature four players who competed in the state tournament in 2019.
Against Gulliver, junior Sam Gelber won at No.1 singles. Senior Xander Lake, who will play at Boston College, won at No.2 singles. Sophomore Lucas Carvalho won at No.5 singles. Junior David Green, the team’s top player, is currently sidelined with an injury but is hopeful to compete in the post-season.
The Raiders, which also include freshman Mikey Zoi, are having a solid season at 3-1, only losing to Belen 4-3, and in that match, Ransom did not play its starting five.
Ransom Everglades tennis coach Peter Lehmann, who is in his 11th season, after coaching 14 years at FIU, said: “I respect the Gulliver team so much. It was a great win for my guys to beat a strong Gulliver team and hopefully kick-start us into the post-season.”
