Lamar Jackson becomes second South Florida athlete to grace the cover of Madden

It might’ve taken nearly 20 years but Madden is finally starting to recognize South Florida talent.

EA Sports revealed Tuesday morning that Lamar Jackson will grace the cover of “Madden NFL 21.” The reigning MVP will join Antonio Brown as the two athletes from South Florida to receive such a honor.

“I grew up playing Madden and owned every copy I could get my hands on, so to be on the cover of ‘Madden NFL 21’ is a dream come true, especially when the cover represents so much of my story,” Jackson said in a statement from EA Sports. “The welcome to the Madden family from around the league and from fans has been phenomenal and I think people will have a lot of fun with the new features coming in this year’s game.”

Starring on the Madden cover caps Jackson’s phenomenal sophomore campaign. Not only did the Boynton Beach High product become the first player to post more than 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season, he was also named the second unanimous MVP in NFL history.

‘Madden NFL 2019,’ which featured the Miami-born Brown, marked the first time an athlete from South Florida was on the cover.

Jackson will be the fourth Floridian (Daunte Culpepper, Ray Lewis and Brown) to be a Madden cover athlete.

Madden NFL 21 releases worldwide Aug. 28.
