Dade’s best vs. Broward’s best in the All-Star football game at Milander on Friday
It will be another edition of 305 versus 954 when the annual Dade vs. Broward high school football all-star game kicks off Friday night.
In danger of slipping through the cracks and the game not getting played because of the loss of a major sponsor, the folks from Tru Sports Foundation stepped up and rescued the game that is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Milander Stadium in Hialeah. Tickets are $10.
The Broward team will be headed up by Fort Lauderdale coach Richard Dunbar, and Hialeah’s Gary Sanchez will be in charge of the Dade team.
Class 7A state champion St. Thomas Aquinas will be well represented on the Broward roster as a total of 10 Raiders will occupy the roster along with Dillard running back Pat Bowen, a Tennessee State commit.
The Dade team will be led by Miami Central quarterback Katravis Marsh, who led the Rockets to the 6A state title along with a host of players from 5A champion Northwestern led by defensive end Wati Huggins.
“Having heard that the game might not be played this year we wanted to take the opportunity to keep a historical game like this alive,” said TSF President Mario Smith, who starred at Monsignor Pace in the early 90s, played for Kansas State in the mid-90s and professionally in the CFL in the late 90s. “We are all about the advancement of our student-athletes and wanted these kids to have the opportunity to showcase their talent in a game that means a great deal in the South Florida community.”
Tickets for the game are $10 for adults and for children 10 and under.
