Monsignor Pace High School broke ground on new Spartan Stadium. These teams will benefit

The Monsignor Pace football team, along with the soccer teams and other sports, will have a new place to call home when they step on the field next August.

Led by Athletic Director and class of 1985 alumnus, Tom Duffin along with Assistant Athletic Director and class of 1978 alum John Rodriguez, the Pace community gathered last week to kick off their ground-breaking of a $1.5 million project for the renovation of their Spartan Stadium.

The updated facility will feature a newly installed polyurethane track and turf and will serve the Pace athletic teams including football, soccer, track, cross country, girls’ flag football, and cheerleading.

Pace alumni — including Miami Lakes vice mayor Nelson Rodriguez (‘85) and ADOM Priest Fr. Matthew Gomez (’09) participated in the ceremony as over 900 students and faculty members watched while the alumni and directors dug their shovels into the sand, signalizing the inauguration of the project.

“It was a great joy to be present at this historic groundbreaking, representing the alumni [and clergy] of my alma mater,” Gomez said. “As Pope Saint John Paul II reminds us ‘the logic of sport is the logic of life; without sacrifices, important results are not obtained, or even genuine satisfaction.’ The lessons that the Spartans will learn on this field will be life lessons that not only will make them winners in their sport but also in life.”
