Leading scorer Tianna Rivera leads Coral Reef High School girls’ soccer to another win
Coach Deano Nunez couldn’t ask for more so far from his Coral Reef girls’ soccer team.
Following a 1-0 win against host Palmer Trinity on Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Barracudas moved their season record to a perfect 8-0-0.
And the Cudas haven’t done it against soft competition. Five of their eight wins have come by a single goal, having defeated Doral Academy, Palmetto, Ferguson and South Dade, all by 2-1 scores.
After a scoreless first half, Reef forward Tianna Rivera, the team’s leading scorer with seven goals, knocked in what turned out to be the only goal of the game in the 55th minute off an assist from Katherine Diaz. Solid defense and nice goalkeeping from Amanda Fernandez made the one goal advantage stand up.
“I’m obvously happy with the fact that we’re winning our games, but we still need to do a better job of getting more shots into the back of the net,” Nunez said. “The ability to win close games is great but you can’t keep living in the edge like that. You need to also be able to put teams away when you have the chance.”
