Gulliver Prep, Pine Crest dominate state swimming championships

Gulliver Prep once again proved to be one of the top swimming programs in Class 2A, while Pine Crest made a splash in Class 1A.

Gulliver Prep’s girls’ team dominated the Class 2A field en route to the school’s fourth state title. The boys team finished second. Pine Crest, meanwhile, posted top-five team finishes in both Class 1A meets, with the girls placing second and the boys fifth.

Gulliver’s girls took home the title behind four first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay (1:46.03), 200 free relay (1:37.56), 50 freestyle (Chloe Hernandez, 24.23) and 100 backstroke (Emily Cordovi, 56.59). The Raiders also had top-five finishes in the 100 butterfly (Emily Cordovi, 55.02, second), 200 freestyle (Olivia Hernandez, 1:53.77, fourth) and 100 breaststroke (Olivia Hernandez, 1:05.13, second).

On the boys side, Gulliver Prep had top-five finishes in the 200 freestyle (Jonathan Rodriguez, 1:42.36, third), 200 freestyle relay (1:28.30, fifth) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.53, fourth).

Pine Crest’s Andrea Santander won the 100 freestyle race in 49.69 seconds. The girls’ team also had top-five finishes in the 200 medley relay (1:45.29, third), 200 IM (Santander, 2:01.34, second), 50 freestyle (Rachel Botting, 23.48, fourth), 1-meter diving (Ishani Singh, 444.20, third), 100 butterfly (Alexandra Meszaros, 56.08, fourth), 200 freestyle relay (1:34.83, third), 100 breaststroke (Sara Lin, 1:05.26, fifth), 400 freestyle relay (3:26.75, second)

On the boys’ side, Kevin Mendez won the one-meter diving title with a score of 533.75. Pine Crest’s boys also posted top-five marks in the 200 medley relay (1:35.15, fourth), 1-meter diving (Denny Gulia-Janovski, 498.40, third), 100 butterfly (Nicholas Vale, 50.19, fourth), 100 backstroke (Elvis Kotikovski, 50.90, fourth; Vale, 52.58, fifth)

As for the rest of the area schools:

Class 2A boys: Mater Lakes 125 points, T-4th place; Pompano Beach 97 points, 7th; Mourning 57 points, 13th; Plantation American Heritage 54 points, 15th; Key West 26 points, 37th; Goleman 11 points, 38th.

Class 2A girls: Plantation American Heritage 68 points, 12th place; Coral Springs Charter 56 points, 14th; Mater Lakes 41 points, 17th; Pompano Beach 29 points, T-24th; Goleman 4 points, 47th.

Class 1A boys: University School 14 points, 22nd; Westminster Academy 4 points, 31st;

Class 1A girls: University School 98 points, 7th; Calvary Christian 51 points, 14th; South Florida Heat 19 points, 22nd; Westminster Academy 17 points, 24th; Ransom Everglades 16 point, 25th; LaSalle 4 points, 27th.
