Palmetto takes advantage of Southwest miscues
Palmetto scored three runs in the fifth to pull away from Southwest and gain a Region 4-9A quarterfinals win Tuesday evening at Coral Reef Park.
“I got better as the game progressed, gained confidence and started painting the corners,” Palmetto pitcher Ryan MacInnes said.
The Panthers’ (23-4) first run came in the second inning on a throwing error to first base.
The Eagles (15-11-1) took the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Damian Alfonso.
Palmetto regained the lead in the fifth when two runs scored on a throwing error to third. Charles Kavalir scored the first earned run for the Panthers on a sacrifice fly.
Kyle Krtausch put Palmetto up 5-2 with an RBI single in the sixth.
Palmetto will play the region semifinal May 15 against host Columbus.
Last season, Palmetto eliminated Columbus with a 4-1 victory in the quarterfinal round on the way to an appearance in the state semifinal.
