Reef, Palmetto in GMAC final
Coral Reef pitcher Brianna Romaguera got little offensive support from her teammates on Tuesday night. Turns out she didn’t even need it.
Romaguera fired a two-hit shutout against Coral Gables to lead her team to a 4-0 win over the Cavaliers in a GMAC softball semifinal at Palmetto Bay Park.
The Barracudas (15-9) took advantage of four hit batters by Gables pitcher Angie Bonilla to score three unearned runs in the first two innings, and Romaguera took it from there.
With the win, Reef advanced to the GMAC championship game on Thursday at 6 p.m. where the opponent will be a familiar one, district rival and three-time reigning GMAC champion Palmetto.
Palmetto barely broke a sweat on Tuesday playing a total of five innings of softball. The Panthers took just 45 minutes to blow out Miami Springs 16-0 in an afternoon quarterfinal, scoring 15 times in the bottom of the second to win on the three-inning 15-run mercy rule.
They then did the exact same thing to Reagan in the evening semifinal, scoring five in the first and 11 more in the second, beating the Bison by the same score.
