West Broward clinches first district football title

The West Broward football team made it clear early on it wasn’t about to let the opportunity to win its first district title slip away.

The Bobcats scored on their first two possessions as they rolled to a 54-21 victory over Cooper City and clinched the District 15-7A title on Monday.

Over the past two seasons, West Broward has outscored Cooper City 121-63.

The Bobcats’ running game proved too much for Cooper City to handle. West Broward rushed for 366 yards on 40 carries and eight touchdowns.

Junior running back Dominic Tianga led the Bobcats with 154 yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns. Senior back Eric Hoff added 118 yards on 11 carries and two scores.

In the past two games, including a 42-16 win over district opponent Nova, Tianga has rushed for 251 yards and seven touchdowns.

West Broward (6-2, 4-1 district) put the game out of reach late in the second quarter after the Cowboys cut the deficit to 20-7.

Tianga scored on a 2-yard run following a Jason Montes De Oca 65-yard kickoff return. Cooper City fumbled the following kickoff as Marc Christie recovered the ball on the Cowboys’ 8. One play later Montes De Oca scored his second touchdown of the first half for a 33-7 lead.

Michael DiLielio, Nathan Barnes and Kobie Simmons scored for the Cowboys (4-5, 3-2).
