Edison, Reagan post upsets in district semifinals

District semifinals in boys’ soccer saw some huge upsets Wednesday afternoon.

Edison shut out district 15-2A defending state champion Ransom Everglades 1-0.

Sophomore Andres Gonzalez scored five minutes into overtime off a Kerry Sarmiento assist to lead Reagan to a 2-1 win over defending state champion Belen Jesuit in District 16-4A.

The Red Raiders will play La Salle for the district title at La Salle on Friday.

The Bison (17-4-1) will travel to Belen to face rival Doral Academy for the district title at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

VOLLEYBALL

The Miami-Dade County Senior All-Star Game was held last week at Ferguson High. The teams were coached by Falcons’ coach Gregory Shanower and Julie Doan, Westminster Christian’s coach.

Shanower’s team won the best-of-three match 25-22, 18-25, 15-8. It was the first time since 2010 that an All-Star game was played in Dade.
