Somerset’s Stevens and Rebhan are the Dade 3A-1A Softball Players of the Year
Taylor Rebhan and Ava Stevens won’t be on the same softball field next year.
It’ll be the first time for them since before their high school days.
Rebhan will be playing at the University of Louisville. Stevens will be pitching her senior season in high school for Somerset Silver Palms.
But then there will be a reunion of sorts when they could face each other in the Atlantic Coast Conference when Stevens arrives at Notre Dame for the 2028 season.
When the two were on the same diamond, they formed a potent tandem for the Stallions, winning a state championship last year and leading them to the Region 4-3A semifinals this season before losing to eventual state champion Coral Springs Charter.
For the third consecutive season, Stevens is the Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade Softball Pitcher of the Year for Class 3A-1A while Rebhan is the Player of the Year in the same category.
Rebhan completed a stellar career with another fantastic season at the plate and defensively. She hit .551 and hit three home runs, nine doubles and three triples while driving in 22 runs for Somerset, leading it to another 20-plus win season.
“I just developed more plate discipline and saw the ball better and not wasted any pitches,” Rebhan said. “I just told the girls coming back next to keep working hard and make sure they get better every day in practice. Any game could be your last so you have to be ready every day.”
Rebhan caught the eyes of Louisville and several other Division-I programs from a young age, but ultimately chose the Cardinals, who have had success recruiting local softball talent such as former Doral Academy ace Alyssa Zabala in recent years.
“I’m super excited and thankful that they saw something in me and I’m really excited for the next chapter,” Rebhan said.
Stevens will be part of the effort to get Silver Palms back to the top in a loaded Class 3A before she heads off to South Bend, Indiana.
A versatile player, Stevens was dominant in the circle once again, going 18-5 with 117 strikeouts in 131 innings. She finished with a 1.02 ERA. Stevens also hit .411 and scored 28 runs as a key figure in Somerset’s lineup.
“We knew whoever won our region would win the state title,” Stevens said. “Unfortunately for us, it wasn’t our year. But our team chemistry was great this year so I think that’s going to help us make it back and win it again next year.”
