Pine Crest’s Abramson, McCarthy’s McLean are Broward Tennis Players of the Year
Pine Crest’s Koray Abramson and Archbishop McCarthy’s Jessica McLean have carved out a place among the state’s best tennis players in recent years.
This past season, each took things to a higher level while advancing to the state tournament and coming close to winning individual state championships.
As such, Abramson and McLean are the Miami Herald’s Broward County Tennis Players of the Year.
McLean is the Girls’ Player of the Year after a stellar senior season in which she finished the individual state runner-up in Class 3A.
McLean went 13-0 until losing in that final match, and beat some of the top competition in Broward County. She secured district and regional championships along the way and capped a strong high school career.
McLean, who earned first team All-Broward honors for the second year in a row, developed a powerful serve from a young age. A four-star prospect per the Tennis Recruiting Network, McLean is heading to play college tennis at Binghamton University in upstate New York.
“I’ve been playing tennis for 11 years,” McLean said. “I have a strong serve because of my height and big forehand.”
Abramson has been a consistent state title contender in recent years for one of the state’s top programs.
Abramson, a junior and also a 4-star prospect, battled through a tough singles and doubles schedule, and advanced to state in singles after winning an individual district title. Abramson followed up with a regional title, and advanced to the Class 2A state semifinals.
Abramson went 11-4 after facing some of the top competition in the state, and also was a district finalist in doubles with partner, Sebastian Yeagley.
