North Broward Prep’s Munoz is the Broward Girls’ Scholar-Athlete of the Year
North Broward Prep’s Ella Munoz spent a lot of her time in high school running and jumping.
Whether it was on the soccer field or the track, Munoz excelled at both disciplines.
And when she wasn’t speeding past opponents or leaping for new distance milestones, Munoz was studying and balancing her athletics with a strong dedication to her academic pursuits.
Munoz became one of the most well-rounded and accomplished student-athletes in South Florida.
And as she prepares to head to Tallahassee where she will attend Florida State University, Munoz can add another honor to growing list of accolades.
Munoz is the Miami Herald’s Broward County Girls’ Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Munoz, a defender on the Eagles’ girls’ soccer team, played a major factor in keeping her squad consistently in contention for championships.
A three-time All-Broward selection, Munoz’s defense helped North Broward Prep advance to the Class 3A state final four this past season, winning a district title along the way and compiling a 19-2-3 record.
She would later complete her track and field career by qualifying for the Class 2A state meet in the three events she competed in throughout her career - the long jump, triple jump and 400-meter hurdles.
Munoz secured two district, and two regional titles in the triple jump during her career and one of each in the long jump as well. She also won a district title in the 400 hurdles once and qualified for state twice on the Eagles’ 400-meter relay team. This past season, she also qualified for state as part of the 1,600-meter relay team.
Munoz was a three-time All-Broward first team selection in soccer as well as track and field.
And she did all of it while maintaining a grade point average, which stood at 4.3 as she completed high school. Munoz, who took three IB courses her senior year as well as honors courses, also scored a 1260 on the SAT and was named to her school’s High Honor Roll. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society and Math Honor Society.
