At a prestigious school such as American Heritage, you have to be pretty good at whatever you apply yourself to in order to stand out.

That’s never been a problem for Stefan Lungescu.

Whether it was running cross-country or on the track, or excelling in his academics, Lungescu stood out among the best student-athletes not just for the Patriots but all of Broward County.

Lungescu caps his stellar career with numerous accolades in both, and can add being this year’s Miami Herald Broward Boys’ Scholar-Athlete of the Year to that list.

Lungescu is a two-time first team All-Broward selection in cross-country. This past season, Lungescu ran the fastest time of any Broward competitor at the state meet when he ran a time of 16:01.7 at the Class 3A meet in Tallahassee.

Last week, Lungescu followed up his success in the fall by running the fastest time of any Broward boys’ competitor at state in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races at the 3A state track championships in Jacksonville.

Lungescu’s time of 4:23.96 in the 1,600, in particular, was enough to finish sixth individually. Lungescu holds school records in both events.

And all of this while maintaining a 5.7 weighted GPA by the end of his high school career. Lungescu also scored a near-perfect 1550 on his SAT, is National Merit Scholar Finalist, an AP Scholar with Honor, an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National School Recognition program recipient and an Honor roll student throughout high school.

Lungescu also spent a lot of time working with Blood Cancer United, a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding cures for various types of blood cancer.

Lungescu is headed to the University of Florida where he plans to study Electrical and Computer Engineering.
