Long-awaited breakthroughs defined the year for boys’ soccer in Miami-Dade County. The architects of the two biggest ones are the Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade County Boys’ Soccer Coaches of the Year.

Columbus’ Kameron Clark is the Herald’s Miami-Dade County Boys’ Soccer Coach of the Year for Classes 7A-5A after leading the Explorers to their first state championship since 2014—and only their second one ever. Downtown Doral’s Jonathan Rosas is the Herald’s Miami-Dade County Boys’ Soccer Coach of the Year for Classes 4A-1A after leading the Dolphins to their first ever state title, a year after they fell short in the championship game.

Clark, who played at Columbus from 2007-2010, returned to his alma mater in 2021 and solidified the Explorers as a postseason fixture, but never even took them to a region championship before this year. In his fifth season back in Miami, Clark finally helped Columbus get back over the hump to get back to the final four for the first time since the Explorers’ 2014 state title and ultimately win the Class 7A championship.

Rosas, who was also one of the Miami-Dade Coaches of the Year in 2024 after helping Downtown Doral reach its first state championship, led perhaps the best team in Florida this year.

The Dolphins lost just one game—and none after the calendar flipped to 2026—and finished the season as the top-ranked team in the state, according to MaxPreps. Downtown Doral outscored opponents 22-2 in the Florida High School Athletic Association playoffs, won its two final four games by a combined score of 9-1 and blew out Somerset Academy - Canyons, 5-0, to win the Class 3A championship for the first state title in school history. The Dolphins had never even reached the FHSAA playoffs before 2024 and are now one of the premier programs in the state.
