Ferguson’s Del Rosario and Leon are Miami-Dade Bowling Co-Coaches of the Year
Ferguson High has become the dominant team in Miami-Dade County bowling in recent years.
This season, the Falcons maintained their standard on both the boys’ and girls’ sides with teams that swept all the major tournament titles and returned to the state championships in Orlando.
Their coaches, Marcela Del Rosario and Jorge Leon, are the Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade County Bowling Coaches of the Year.
It’s a repeat honor for Del Rosario, who shared responsibilities with Leon on the boys’ side, while anchoring the head coaching position for the girls’ team.
Ferguson’s boys swept the Youth Fair, district and GMAC team titles on their way to another state meet. At state, the Falcons continued to make strides, advancing to the Baker bracket elimination round where they advanced to the third round before losing to Port St. Lucie Somerset Academy.
Along the way, the Falcons put together dominant performances highlighted by senior and Boys’ Bowler of the Year Rashawn Viart, who rolled a 300 game. Seniors Remy Dou and Jesus Prieto, along with junior Lexander Perdomo, made Ferguson one of the deepest squads in the state.
On the girls’ side, Del Rosario directed the Falcons to wins at Youth Fair, GMAC and districts as well. At state, Ferguson finished 20th overall, just missing the cut for the elimination round.
The girls were led by freshman phenom Angelie Brito, who maintained the county’s best average (183) and won individual titles at Youth Fair and districts.
Brito will be counted on even more next season to lead the team as Ferguson senior siblings Emma and Isabella Jaramillo, who were both All-Dade first team selections, graduate this year.
