Plantation American Heritage has produced numerous college and even some pro golf talent over its years of prominence.

Junior Sohan Patel and senior Lilly Riegger are ready to join that growing pantheon.

Patel joined some of the greats of his school’s program when he repeated as state individual champion. Riegger secured a top 10 finish individually, but her efforts all season spearheaded a return to the top for the Patriots’ girls as a team.

And so, Patel and Riegger are the Miami Herald’s Broward County Golfers of the Year for the 2025 season.

Patel’s combined score of 139 was enough to win the state Class 2A individual title by one stroke and secure ninth individual championship by an American Heritage golfer all-time. He finished five-under over the two-day tournament.

Patel finished with a county-best 68.9 stroke average for 18 holes for the season.

Patel, who also won a district title and the Morrison Invitational, is the third Patriots golfer to win multiple state individual titles, joining current PGA Tour golfer Luke Clanton and Jorge Garcia.

Patel, who is committed to Vanderbilt, will have a chance to join Clanton next season as the only Heritage golfers to win three individual state titles. Clanton shares the state record with former Columbus golfer James Vargas.

Riegger finished ninth at state to cap a strong season in which she averaged 74.25 over 18 holes and shot a 7-under 65 during the regular season. Riegger also finished tied for third at districts and fourth at regionals.

Riegger, who has signed with Lehigh, and sophomore Nicole Wu, each finished in the top 10 at state to help Heritage top Miami’s SLAM Academy by 19 strokes combined over two days for the team title.

Their efforts led the Patriots to their first state title since 2022 and state-record 12th team title overall.
