South Plantation’s Collins, Western’s Chisano are the Broward Bowling Coaches of the Year
South Plantation’s Jennifer Collins and Western’s Ashley Chisano guided their respective teams to great heights this season as both advanced to the state tournament.
They both saw their squads achieve both team and individual success along the way.
And for both programs, the future appears bright with multiple standouts returning next season.
For their efforts, Collins and Chisano are this year’s Miami Herald Broward County Bowling Coaches of the Year.
Both Collins, the Girls’ Bowling Coach of the Year, and Chisano, the Boys’ Bowling Coach of the Year, led their respective squads to the top finishes by any Broward team at this year’s state championships.
Collins led a squad that was captained by her daughter, Miami Herald Girls’ Bowler of the Year, Joss Collins, to a seventh-place finish at state. The Paladins knocked down 3,458 pins to advance to the Baker bracket round, but lost in the second round to Rockledge. South Plantation then lost in Round 4 of the consolation bracket to Jensen Beach.
Along the way, though, South Plantation was one of the more dominant teams in the state. The Paladins won the District 15 team championship led by Joss Collins, who won the individual title and later finished 16th individually at state.
Chisano led Western to a 12th-place finish at state a week after winning the District 15 team championship. The Wildcats fell in the first round of the Baker bracket to Clermont East Ridge and then lost in Round 3 of the consolation bracket to Tampa’s SLAM Academy.
Chisano’s squad was led by Broward Boys’ Bowler of the Year, Lucas Gonzalez, who placed 19th individually at state. The Wildcats graduate Gonzalez and other top standouts Christopher Romano and Jorge Torres, but will look to rebuild behind a young core to make another run to state next season.
