South Florida has seen its fair share of prolific quarterbacks in recent years.

Because of this wave of talent, attention needs to be paid closely to Miami-Dade County’s passing records as some have been broken repeatedly over the past decade.

However, Miami Norland quarterback Ennio Yapoor might be on his way to making several marks pretty hard to reach.

Yapoor began lighting up the scoreboard as an eighth-grader when he won a state title at Hialeah Champagnat Catholic School and has continued to do so at Miami Norland in the three years since he transferred there.

The recently-concluded 2023 campaign was his best yet.

Although it didn’t end the way Yapoor hoped, with a state championship, he completed 205 of 297 passes for 4,270 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for 793 yards and 12 touchdowns on 102 attempts.

For these accomplishments, Yapoor is the Miami Herald’s Class 2M-1M Dade Football Offensive Player of the Year.

Yapoor led Norland to the Class 2M state final and a 14-1 season that included a GMAC, district and regional title as well as a top 15 national ranking.

Yapoor was most proud of the way he was able to lead a largely-revamped Norland roster to state this season.

“It’s a blessing to have just a bunch of brothers like this,” Yapoor said after the win over Central. “To think of where we came from where a lot of us didn’t even know each other to what we accomplished, I truly appreciate it. Glory to God.”

Yapoor delivered some of his best performances against the state’s top teams.

His 489-yard, five-touchdown effort against Lakeland in Norland’s season opener set the tone for a memorable season. Yapoor also threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns to help Norland erase a 20-0 deficit in its regular season win over Miami Central, which clinched a district title.

Along the way, Yapoor made history.

During Norland’s 31-28 overtime win in the Region 4-2M final that dethroned four-time defending state champion Miami Central, Yapoor broke the Dade single-season passing yardage record previously set by former Miami Northwestern quarterback Taron Dickens.

Yapoor has now passed for 10,968 yards for his career.

And he has one more season left at Norland.
