Edison’s Vincent Hall is Miami-Dade County’s 2022 Flag Football Coach of the Year

Vincent Hall has spent seven years building up Edison as Miami’s preeminent flag football powerhouse, searching for every he can find and establishing an unparalleled culture in one of the United States’ premier football cities.

In the last year, Hall and the Red Raiders stepped up their offseason commitment and Edison remained in a class of its own. It’s why he’s the Miami Herald’s Miami-Dade County Flag Football Coach of the Year.

“Building a team is just work,” he said. “It’s putting in work throughout the year.”

Last year, it meant putting together a full summer schedule for the first time.

As much success as the program has had since beginning in 2016, Edison has still yet to win a state title and Hall is trying to take lessons from Tampa Robinson and Tampa Alonso -- the top two teams in the state over the last five years -- by watching what they do year round, so, for the first time, he turned his Red Raiders into a travel team last summer and had them play all across the state.

At Edison, the synergy between the two football programs help. Football coach Luther Campbell -- better known as Uncle Luke -- is an instrumental figure within the Liberty City Optimist Club and the Liberty City Warriors sponsored the Red Raiders to travel to tournaments throughout the summer.

“I have the plug over there,” Hall said with a laugh. “They gave me the blueprint and the idea that they would sponsor the girls to compete.”

Even though Edison fell just short in the Class 1A semifinals, Hall said he felt the program took another step forward.

“We could feel the difference,” he said. “We probably got a total of 45-50 games in this summer.”

Although the Red Raiders have had deeper runs and will lose the Herald’s Miami-Dade County Flag Football Player of the Year to graduation, this season was still a “stepping stone,” Hall said.

Edison keeps chipping away and, eventually, Hall believes the Red Raiders will bring a state championship back to Miami.

Said Hall: “I like to say, One brick at a time.”
