War Memorial to host first South Florida boxing show of 2016

South Florida will have its first boxing show of the year Friday night at War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale.

Unbeaten Roamer Angulo of Colombia and Argentina’s Claudio Abalos will fight in the main event of the first local show since last November.

The scheduled 12-round, super-middleweight bout between Angulo (17-0, 15 KOs) and Abalos (30-14-3, 8 KOs) headlines an announced eight-bout card.

The undercard will feature unbeaten South Florida prospects Robert Alfonso and Tyrone Spong, both of whom fight as heavyweights, and featherweight Aujee Tyler.

Ticket prices are $75 and $55 ringside and $35 and $25 general admission. VIP tables also will be available for $100. For information, call 954-616-8152.

▪ The USA Knockouts will face the Morocco Atlas Lions in a World Series of Boxing match Friday night at Miccosukee Resort and Gaming. The Knockouts currently are 2-3 with five points and in third place of the WSB’s Group B.

▪ Former super-middleweight champion Andre Ward won a lopsided unanimous decision over Miami resident Sullivan Barrera late Saturday in Oakland, California. All three judges scored the bout for Ward, 117-108, 119-109 and 117-109.

Ward is now 29-0 while the loss was Barrera’s first after the native of Cuba began his professional career with 17 consecutive victories.
