Johnson loses decision to Yidirim
Miami resident Glen Johnson lasted the distance, but couldn’t keep up with Abni Yidirim’s punch volume.
Yidirim won a unanimous decision over Johnson, 46, in the main event of a boxing card late Saturday night. The light-heavyweight bout headlined a show that attracted an estimated 2,500 fans at Manna Production Village in Wynwood.
Yidirim (6-0) won the bout on two judges’ scorecards, 96-94, and 99-91 on the third. Johnson is 54-21-2.
In the co-main event, Miami resident Neslan Machado remained unbeaten with a third-round technical knockout win over Mexico’s Christian Esquivel.
Machado’s speed and power overwhelmed Esquivel as he dropped his outclassed opponent with a flurry of combinations in the second round. The punch buildup forced Esquivel’s cornermen to stop the super-bantamweight fight before the bell to start the third round.
For the 19-year-old Machado (10-0, 8 KOs), the bout was the first in his hometown after starting his career with nine fights away from South Florida.
