A Florida-based former light heavyweight champion of the world punched a teenager identified as the son of his live-in girlfriend in the mouth, cops say.
Pasco County Sheriff’s Office arrested Antonio Tarver, 49, Monday night on a charge of misdemeanor domestic violence Monday night at Tarver’s Land O’ Lakes home. Tarver posted $1,000 bond and was out Tuesday.
“While living together as a family,” court documents say, Tarver hit Aziya Taylor in the mouth, then picked Taylor up and put him outside the house. A PCSO deputy said he saw Taylor bleeding from the mouth and claimed Tarver did admit to “restraining” Taylor.
Taylor is identified by TMZ.com as the 18-year-old son of Tarver’s girlfriend. Taylor being short cash at Waffle House started the argument, according to TMZ.com.
In an 18-year career, Tarver won a version of the world light-heavyweight title several times, most famously with a 2004 knockout of Roy Jones. Jones’ only previous loss had been a disqualification for hitting an opponent he’d just dropped, but after Tarver talked trash to Jones after the refere’s instructions, he knocked out Jones with a single left in the second round.
