Impact Wrestling’s Slammiversary, marking the 16th anniversary of the company, is Sunday at 8 p.m. from the Rebel Complex in Toronto.
It is available on pay-per-view and FITE TV.
Following Slammivrsary will be Impact Wrestling TV tapings for Pop TV on Monday and Tuesday at the same venue in Toronto.
Here are some interviews and previews with talent leading into those events.
Brian Cage on The Roman Show
The Machine Brian Cage recently spoke to Rodolfo Roman of The Roman Show at the annual Florida Supercon in Fort Lauderdale.
In FCW — WWE’s developmental company prior to NXT — Cage discussed playing the superhero character Night Claw, before being released in 2009.
Cage, 34, recalled: “I am out there having awesome matches with Justin Gabriel, Tyson Kidd, Trent Barrreta, and Dusty Rhodes pulls me to the office and goes, ‘Let me tell you something baby. You are a phenomenal worker. You got to have something else. You can’t be that. Hey Matt, what’s that guy called the Honey Badger The Wolverine yeah. But you can’t be the Wolverine because that’s a trademark, so give me something else.’
“I went back, and I was looking through my trading cards and comics, and I said, ‘I’ll be like the Dark Claw which is Batman and Wolverine.’ I made my attire off that, and they were going to bring me up, and then Hurricane came up and Dusty said, ‘OK, we are thinking of feuding or teaming you with Hurricane.’ So I started doing a bunch of heel promos but I got released.”
For the first time, Cage faces Matt Sydal, the X Division champion for Impact Wrestling, at the Slammiversary PPV.
Cage said. “He will lose the title, and I’ll change it to the Weapon X Division title. It’s a play on Wolverine, and I’ll remain supreme, until I move over to another title.”
Cage also discussed bodybuilding and former Mr. Olympia Lou Ferrigno (“Incredible Hulk”), who was also a guest at Florida Supercon.
“Lou Ferrigno asked me to do one of his bodybuilding shows,” he said. “I wanted to, but I haven’t done any bodybuilding in a few years because my schedule is too busy.”
Cage also talks skating, love for metal and more.
