Kazakhstan defeats USA Knockouts 5-0 in World Series of Boxing
Astana Arlans Kazakhstan remained unbeaten and defeated the USA Knockouts 5-0 in a World Series of Boxing match Friday night at Miccosukee Resort and Gaming.
Light-welterweight Samat Bashenov clinched the match for Kazakhstan with his split decision victory over the Knockouts’ Tyrek Kirby. Two judges scored the bout for Bashenov, 49-45 and 48-46, while the third judge had Kirby winning, 48-46.
Kazakhstan is now 11-0 and solidified its lead in Group B of the WSB table. The Knockouts (6-5) lost their third consecutive match.
In other bouts: heavyweight Vassiliy Levit won by unanimous decision over Adrian Taylor; middleweight Meirim Nursultanov won by unanimous decision over Kalvin Henderson; bantamweight Meirbolat Toitov won by unanimous decision over Francisco Martinez; light-flyweight Termitas Zhussupov won a split decision over Joshua Franco.
Late Thursday, Ghana’s Fredrick Lawson (24-0) won a narrow split decision over Miami resident Breidis Prescott (27-7) in the main event of a card at Hialeah Park and Casino. Two judges scored the welterweight bout for Lawson, 95-94, while the third had Prescott winning, 96-93.
