FIFA Fan Fest reaches capacity ahead of Argentina vs. Cape Verde match
Just as Argentina was set to take on Cape Verde, FIFA’s Fan Fest at Bayfront Park reached capacity.
But the energy didn’t stall. Through the risk of lightning, sticky humidity and a winding line filled with thousands of chanting fans, Argentine fans flooded Bayfront Park with a sea of blue jerseys.
And most proudly wore the number 10.
Bayfront Park reached capacity with over 30,000 attendees inside. Fans left outside crowded the entrance to the amphitheater, echoing the chants coming from inside the venue they couldn’t enter.
Inside the Fan Fest, fans danced along to beating drums, shopped for World Cup jerseys and watched their kids scramble up rock climbing walls.
Florencia Varro, 32, visited from Argentina to celebrate in Miami. They’re here to watch Argentina win, she says.
“The energy is incredible, it’s a party,” Varro said in Spanish. “The Argentines are a party.”
She made it inside for about two hours, but she had tried lining up as early as this morning, but they were turned away when it started thundering. It’s also been an adjustment watching the game from Miami, Varro said, because it’s currently winter in Argentina.
“We’re drinking a lot of water,” she said. “It’s a very strong change in temperature.”
Mariano Pareira, 32, was happy to cool down with some ice-cold beers. Before the game, he spent his time exploring the city’s beaches.
“We spent a few days here in Miami,” Pareira said in Spanish. “If Argentina advances, we continue onto Atlanta, Kansas, and who knows, New York.”
