St. Thomas advances to conference semis in women’s soccer
No. 3 seed St. Thomas advanced to the Sun Conference tournament semifinals with a 3-0 victory over No. 6 seed Southeastern at Bobcat Field.
Alexa Rivera and Sharon Tejeda provided two first half goals to give the host Bobcats (11-6, 7-3 TSC) an early lead and Kortney Hinden added an insurance goal in the second half. Up next for St. Thomas is a semifinals match against Keiser on Friday in Savannah, Georgia.
Southeastern fell to 10-7, 5-5.
Men’s Soccer
▪ Southeastern 2, St. Thomas 1: The Bobcats (11-6, 7-2) came one goal short of defeating No. 17 Southeastern (15-4, 8-1) in the Sun Conference tournament final in Lakeland.
The Fire held a two-goal lead before a goal by Kris Wilkinson midway through the second half restored the Bobcats’ hopes. Ultimately, St. Thomas could not find the equalizer.
St. Thomas’ Wilkinson, Delano Coehlo, and Victor Cortez were named to the The Sun Conference Championship All-Tournament team.
Women’s basketball
▪ Broward College 85, ASA College (Miami) 34: Tabitha Gonzalez scored 20 points and Jane Svilberg added 15 to lead the host Seahawks (1-1) over the Silver Storm (0-1). Queralt Coll Pradas had 14 points for Broward. Keondra Greer scored 21 points for ASA College.
