The USF Bulls land three-game football deal with Notre Dame. It starts this season.

The University of South Florida announced a top nonconference addition to its 2020 football schedule Thursday.

The Bulls announced they’re playing traditional power Notre Dame in a three-game deal that begins Sept. 19 in South Bend, Indiana.

Landing the Fighting Irish became a possibility after COVID-19, the illness from the novel coronavirus that’s caused a global pandemic, altered the college football landscape. An independent, Notre Dame became an ACC member for the 2020 season, filling the slate with ACC opponents, according to multiple reports.

USF, meanwhile, is using the Sept. 19 date that opened after a game with Nevada was canceled. As part of the deal, the Bulls make two trips to Notre Dame with one return visit for the Fighting Irish to Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium.

The Bulls last played at Notre Dame in 2011 when USF pulled off a 23-20 upset of the Fighting Irish, who were ranked No. 16 at the time.

The game marks the first of three straight road games for USF, who open the year the week before against The Citadel at home.

There were multiple reports about USF playing at Notre Dame this season just last week, with Irish Illustrated being the first to report the Sept. 12 matchup.
