Here’s new USF coach Jeff Scott’s salary and his buyout deal, according to a report
Details surrounding new USF coach Jeff Scott’s contract have emerged.
Scott is set to make $12.5 million over five years, according to the Tampa Bay Times. That salary includes a $500,000 signing bonus and a base salary of $500,000 plus $1.3 million structured for the first year, according to the outlet.
Scott’s deal also includes a buyout starting at $2.5 million if he leaves before Dec. 31, 2020, and scaled down from there, the Times reported.
Scott was announced as the fifth head coach in USF program history on Monday after reports began circulating he was taking over following Charlie Strong’s dismissal.
A formal introductory press conference is scheduled for Wednesday, though it is open to the public and free to attend. Scott was hired from Clemson, where he served as co-offensive coordinator with Tony Elliott for the last five seasons.
During his time as co-OC, Clemson advanced to the College Football Playoff five times, won two national titles and finished runner-up once. The Tigers also won five consecutive ACC titles, while amassing the No. 3 total offense and No. 4 scoring offense in 2019.
Scott’s father, Brad, is a USF graduate and is originally from the rural Florida town of Arcadia located southeast from Tampa.
Jeff Scott was on Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney’s staff for the past 12 seasons. Swinney released a statement Monday that Scott will join USF for the next week before rejoining Clemson for the duration of the Tigers’ CFP run, which begins in the national semifinal against Ohio State on Dec. 28 in the Fiesta Bowl.
