Florida Gators’ defensive line hurting
The No. 8 Gators will be without three key linemen against Florida Atlantic on Saturday, including top pass-rusher Alex McCalister.
The junior defensive end, who leads UF with 6.5 sacks, injured his right foot early in Florida’s 24-14 win at South Carolina.
The Gators also lost rotational end Jordan Sherit, who recorded 1.5 sacks against the Gamecocks before aggravating a hamstring.
Meanwhile, former starting defensive tackle Joey Ivie will miss his third straight game with a leg injury.
Without McCalister and Sherit, five-star freshman CeCe Jefferson will see increased snaps, as will a trio of redshirt freshmen (Taven Bryan, Khairi Clark and Justus Reed) who all played well against South Carolina.
