Florida Gators’ search for kicker still not finalized

Florida’s well-publicized search for a new placekicker isn’t over yet.

Coach Jim McElwain said the competition between three prospective kickers remains ongoing and UF could add one, two or all three kickers to the roster before Saturday’s showdown with Georgia. Last week, Florida solicited students on Twitter to tryout for a walk-on spot after losing Jorge Powell to a season-ending knee injury against LSU.

“I’m probably more worried about now they actually have to put a uniform on, as far as which way the helmet goes and how to put thigh pads in and make sure it doesn’t go wrong,” McElwain said.

The Gators have just one other kicker on the roster, and redshirt junior Austin Hardin has been battling a leg injury.

Two of the finalists are former UF walk-ons, and there’s a possibility the new kicker(s) actually play in Jacksonville with Hardin’s status unclear.
