Florida Gators RB Matt Jones expected to play against LSU
Junior running back Matt Jones missed two days of practice with knee swelling, but coach Will Muschamp expects Florida’s workhorse tailback to start Saturday against LSU.
“I fully expect him to play, certainly do,” Muschamp said.
Jones sustained a serious knee injury against the Tigers last year and underwent multiple offseason surgeries to repair a torn meniscus. The junior has been Florida’s backfield bellcow this season, rushing for a team-leading 372 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, several other players are expected to return as well, including senior linebacker Michael Taylor and a trio of freshmen — tailback Brandon Powell (hamstring), wideout C.J. Worton (broken hand) and quarterback Will Grier (back spasms).
Worton (Homestead) and Powell (Deerfield Beach) are involved in Florida’s gameplan this weekend, with Worton contending for his first-career start.
