Here’s the Florida Gators’ #GatorGangXX recruiting class after National Signing Day
With 21 commitments secured through December’s early signing period, the Florida Gators already accomplished the bulk of the #GatorGangXX signing class.
Heading into Wednesday’s National Signing Day, the Gators had 10 targets. They only signed three players, with two more waiting to sign later in the period, which runs until April 1 for Football Bowl Subdivision players.
UF began Wednesday inking letters of intent from two wide receivers. Justin Shorter, a former five-star wide receiver from New Jersey, signed with Florida as a transfer from Penn State. The Gators also received Xzavier Henderson’s pledge. Henderson won the Class 8A state title playing at Miami Columbus. The final piece to Dan Mullen’s recruiting class came when the Gators signed Princely Umanmielen, a consensus four-star safety on the 247 Sports’ composite rankings from Manor, Texas.
Shorter’s transfer marked the second time a former five-star recruit came to the Gators via the transfer portal recently. Former Miami Hurricanes running back Lorenzo Lingard transfered to UF last month. The Gators also landed former Georgia Bulldogs edge rusher Brenton Cox in the fall through a transfer.
It was an otherwise quiet day for the Gators.
That’s because UF struck out on consensus three-star athlete Damarcus Beckwith, who is from Florence, Alabama, as well as others. Beckwith chose Tennessee over the Gators, doing a fake-out of sorts as he went to grab a Gators visor before putting it down and revealing a Vols shirt.
Consensus four-star running back Ashaad Clayton, of New Orleans, stuck with his commitment to Colorado instead of flipping to UF.
Avantae Williams picked UM over Florida. Williams is a consensus four-star recruit, rated the No. 2 safety in the country, from DeLand.
Consensus four-star center Sedrick Van Pran, a Georgia commit from New Orleans, stuck with the Bulldogs over flipping to the Gators. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs also picked another school instead of UF, choosing Georgia Tech.
Fort Lauderdale Stranahan wide receiver Leonard Manuel is a UF target who didn’t sign Wednesday. He’s expected to sign on April 1, according to 247 Sports. Another Gators target delaying his signing was athlete Marc Britt from Miami Christian, who orally committed to UF in November. Britt isn’t planning to sign until Feb. 20, according to 247 Sports, and it’s between the Gators and Hurricanes.
