Emmitt Smith’s son chose Stanford over Florida. Here’s what Emmitt said about it.
Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith’s legacy is well-documented.
The former Pensacola Escambia High star continued wrecking opposing defenses at the University of Florida before his Hall of Fame career in the NFL.
So there was a chance his son, E.J., was going to follow Emmitt’s path to become a Gator during Wednesday’s early signing period.
Instead, E.J. Smith, a running back from Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, picked Stanford.
Emmitt was asked on ESPN 2 about E.J. not choosing UF.
“At the end of the day, my son has his own journey, and it is his journey, not my journey,” Emmitt Smith said. “For him to do the things that is best for him, is what we teach all of our children. To find what is best for you and go make it happen for yourself. I’m proud of him for standing up and being the man that he is, the man that he will continue to become, and I’m a Gator, he’s still a Gator because he’s in my family, and my wife is a Gator because she’s in our family. We’re still a family of Gators.”
