Injuries sideline key players on Florida Gators defense
Florida will venture into Tennessee on Saturday without a pair of defensive starters.
Defensive tackle Leon Orr, the team’s top interior lineman, is out with a partial meniscus tear after undergoing arthroscopic surgery during UF’s bye week.
Meanwhile, starting linebacker Michael Taylor, Florida’s leader in tackles, is “questionable to likely doubtful” with a similar knee injury, coach Will Muschamp said.
On offense, backup tailback Brandon Powell (Deerfield Beach) is doubtful with a lingering hamstring injury. Muschamp had hoped to get the promising freshman more involved in the offense, even tinkering with the idea of playing Powell as a slot receiver.
Florida’s offensive line should be at full strength against the Volunteers, though, as starting left tackle D.J. Humphries (high ankle sprain/bone chip) and starting guard Trenton Brown (ankle) are probable and “ready to go.”
