Fifth-year senior running back Anthon Samuel and sophomore safety Niko Gonzalez both sat out practice Tuesday, although coach Ron Turner called each a case of being cautious with the player.

Samuel, on crutches with a raised left foot, has an ankle sprain. Gonzalez, who missed two games with a stinger, had “mild concussion symptoms.”

If Samuel’s out Saturday against FAU, freshman Anthony Jones likely would back up sophomore Alex Gardner.

Going bowling?

The heads of the St. Petersburg Bowl, the Popeye’s Bahamas Bowl and the Miami Beach Bowl attended FIU’s 41-12 rout of Old Dominion. On the committee of the Miami Beach Bowl, which will take a Conference USA team this year: FIU athletic director Pete Garcia.
