Alex McGough, Thomas Owens might set FIU records simultaneously
Two FIU single-season records could fall Saturday against Old Dominion, perhaps on the same play.
Sophomore quarterback Alex McGough’s 14 touchdown passes matches his full 2014 season total and leaves him only two from the FIU record of 16, set by current FIU radio color analyst Wes Carroll in 2010. McGough’s touchdowns place him only fourth in Conference USA, but 18th in the nation.
Half of McGough’s touchdown passes have gone to sophomore wide receiver Thomas Owens, just one behind the record-setting eight touchdown catches by tight end Jonnu Smith in 2014.
▪ Going to a bowl would earn FIU coach Ron Turner a $20,000 bonus, and winning a bowl will earn Turner another $10,000. Athletic director Pete Garcia would earn approximately $11,990.
