How do you attract students in Miami for a noon football game? You can’t just try making it free. FIU is going to try to pay them in tuition.
Because the athletic department survives on student fees, students get into all FIU athletic events free anyway. Those at Saturday’s game against UTEP can enter a raffle with the chance to be one of 20 students who will win $1,000 toward tuition.
Raffle tickets will be distributed only through the second quarter. Winning numbers will be displayed on the scoreboard throughout the game. Winners must be present to collect. If anybody at FIU needed a reminder of the damage done to attendance by noon kickoffs, the triple-digit crowds at kickoff for last year’s two noon home games provided that.
▪ The Oct. 17 game at Middle Tennessee is now a noon eastern time kickoff.
