Three FIU players might miss opening game

As the FIU coaching staff switched offensive linemen around to fill left guard, center and right tackle spots, redshirt freshman Kai Absheer moved to the top of the right-tackle chart.

Now, it looks as if Absheer could miss at least the season opener, Sept. 3 at UCF. Three players expected to contribute significantly this year — Absheer, redshirt sophomore backup linebacker Jordan Guest and sophomore potential deep threat Shawn Abrams — were in the Home Depot orange injury jerseys Monday.

“[Guest] should be back in the next day or so,” coach Ron Turner said. “Kai, we’ll see where he is when we approach the weekend. He’ll be back very soon. If not back for this one, he should be back for the next one [Sept. 12 at Indiana]. He’s having a very good camp. He’s going to be a good player.”
