FIU Panthers’ Alex Gardner gets bye week to rest injury
There was no official update on freshman running back Alex Gardner’s right shoulder injury Monday.
Gardner posted on Twitter on Sunday that his shoulder didn’t pop out. He wore an immobilizing sling on the shoulder Monday. Gardner injured the shoulder during FIU’s 45-13 loss to Marshall on Saturday. Gardner leads the team with 582 rushing yards.
FIU has an open week before playing Rice on Nov. 1. Gardner could sit out a full two weeks, yet miss only one game.
Smith honored
Sophomore tight end Jonnu Smith’s eight catches for 74 yards against Marshall on Saturday earned him an honorable mention nod among the nation’s tight ends from the College Football Performance Awards.
