While awaiting bowl fate, 11 FIU Panthers earn Conference USA honors
Eleven FIU Panthers players have earned All-Conference USA honors, including Kejon Owens, who was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.
FIU, which finished the season 7-5, is eligible for a bowl game for the first time since 2019.
Owens broke FIU’s single-season rushing record with 1,298 yards. He also ranked seventh nationally in yards, and he scored 11 touchdowns.
Three other FIU players made first-team All-C-USA: wide receiver Alex Perry, linebacker Johnny “Chainsaw” Chaney Jr. and nickel cornerback Mister Clark.
Perry caught 53 passes for 816 yards and nine TDs. In conference play, Perry led the league in receiving yards (706) and receiving TDs (eight).
Chaney posted 99 tackles, including 6½ for losses. He also had two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Clark led the league with 16 pass breakups, which includes three interceptions.
On the second team were: center Julius Pierce; guard Jaheim Buchanon; defensive ends Keegan Davis and Kenton Simmons; and safety Jessiah McGrew.
Cornerback Brian Blades II and safety Shamir Sterlin made honorable mention.
In addition, McGrew and Sterlin made the All-Freshman Team. McGrew set an FIU freshman record with four interceptions.
