FIU extends athletic director Scott Carr’s contract for three years
FIU athletic director Scott Carr has been rewarded with a three-year, $400,000 contract extension, the Miami Herald has learned.
The contract will expire Nov. 30, 2028.
Carr was hired on Dec. 21, 2021. Since his arrival, FIU has won eight conference titles. In addition, the Panthers set an athletics program record in 2023-2024 with a cumulative GPA of 3.44.
In terms of revenue generation, FIU has been active under Carr, securing a deal with rapper Pitbull that pays the university $1.2 million per year for at least five years. In terms of brand awareness, that deal has been worth nearly $90 million, according to FIU’s website.
Carr also helped negotiate an extension of the naming-rights deal for the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. That extension quadrupled the previous financial agreement.
Carr was also a key figure in bringing back the FIU Sports Hall of Fame, which in September had its first induction ceremony since 2006.
Under Carr, FIU started the Panther Club, which is the university’s fund-raising entity for sports.
Also under Carr, FIU has spent $6-million in facility enhancements, including a new weight room, tennis courts, locker-rooms for football and a new dugout for the softball field.
On the field, Carr’s biggest decision was dismissing previous football coach Mike MacIntyre and replacing him this past December with Willie Simmons. The Panthers are 5-5 entering the week and one win away from securing bowl eligibility for the first time since 2019.
