FIU signs 12 football recruits to total 20 for the 2025 recruiting cycle

The FIU Panthers on Wednesday signed 12 football recruits – including an intriguing quarterback.

Together with eight players signed in December, this concludes the bulk of new coach Willie Simmons’ first FIU recruiting class.

(It’s always possible that one or more additional recruits are signed in the coming weeks.)

Of those 20 total signees, 11 play offense, and nine play defense. There are seven are from Broward while three are from Miami-Dade, and all 20 players will be true freshman this fall.

Simmons, a native of Tallahassee, worked his Florida connections as 19 of the 20 signees are from the Sunshine State.

That includes one player from Simmons’ hometown – defensive back Jessiah McGrew, who played 38 games during his prep career, intercepting eight passes.

The only non-Floridian on FIU’s 2025 recruiting list is Christian Langford, a 6-2, 205-pound quarterback from Georgia.

Langford led Langston Hughes High to a 13-2 record and a state final in 2024.

A dual-threat QB, Langford completed 56.9 percent of his passes last year for 3,258 yards, 38 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He also ran for 632 yards, an 8.4 average and eight touchdowns.

Langford, who also ran track, rejected offers from UCF, Liberty and Troy. Langford visited FIU on Jan. 17, and he committed two days later.

Overall, FIU’s 2025 class has at least one player at every offensive and defensive position, and the Panthers loaded up on players named Smith, signing three of those.

Anthony Smith, for example, is a huge (6-1, 310), run-stuffing defensive tackle from Chaminade. Over the past two years, he produced 30½ tackles for losses and five sacks.

Kani Smith, a linebacker from Pahokee, recorded 31 tackles for losses and 17½ sacks over the past two years.

Jeremy Smith, an offensive lineman from Miami Central, signed in December.

Among the players who signed on Wednesday, watch out for Amari Isaac and King Massey.

Isaac, a wide receiver from Hollywood Hills, caught 72 passes for 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior. As a junior, he had 57 catches for 704 yards and seven TDs.

Massey, he of the royal first name, started 32 games in his prep career, totaling 40½ tackles for losses and 16½ sacks. As a senior, he had 23 tackles for losses and seven sacks.

Isaac, Massey and the rest of the recruits will join 60 returners to give Simmons 80 players on his current roster. More additions and/or subtractions could be made, especially when the transfer portal opens again in April.
