The Birmingham Stallions are in their second straight USFL championship game.

And a former FIU quarterback is one of the key driving forces.

Alex McGough tallied 394 total yards — 310 passing and 84 rushing — with five total touchdowns to lead the Stallions to a 47-22 victory over the New Orleans Breakers in Sunday’s USFL playoff game.

Birmingham, the defending USFL champions, can repeat with a win against the Pittsburgh Maulers on Saturday.

McGough’s play led head coach Skip Holtz to reference Rembrandt when describing the Tampa native’s play.

No, really.

“I think what he does on the field is brilliant,” Holtz said, according to TheUSFL.com. “I mean he’s absolutely artistic and amazing with what he’s doing right now with his mind and what you see in the field and everything. Yes, I would like to keep them healthy. But I also know that he’s painting this absolute Rembrandt out there.”

The Seattle Seahawks selected McGough in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and he bounced around the practice squads for the Seahawks, Jaguars and Texans before getting a chance to shine in the USFL.

This year, McGough is a favorite to claim the league’s MVP award.

And he has the South Division champs one win from repeating as USFL champions.

In his four-year career with FIU, McGough completed 60 percent of his passes for 9,084 yards and tossed 65 touchdowns against 37 interceptions.

Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, tight end Jonnu Smith and defensive back Johnathan Cyprien are some of the notable former FIU players chosen in the NFL Draft.
