FIU Panthers’ Akil Dan-Fodio goes from walk-on to scholarship player

International business major Akil Dan-Fodio, a redshirt junior on the football field and senior in the classroom, went from high school quarterback to walk-on tight end with an academic scholarship in 2011. He filled in at QB in the 2013 spring, played special teams last year and went back to tight end this year.

This week, Dan-Fodio became a scholarship athlete.

Dan-Fodio joins sophomore long snapper Sam Medlock – brother of former FIU quarterback Jake Medlock and current FIU freshman quarterback Luke Medlock – and sophomore linebacker/special teams player De’Shawn Hazziez as former walk-ons who this year have gone on scholarship.
