FIU football completes coaching staff by adding coach with deep South Florida ties
FIU coach Mike MacIntyre has completed his staff by hiring Corey Bell, who has deep ties to Miami.
Bell will coach cornerbacks and serve as recruiting coordinator. His previous stops as a collegiate assistant coach were at Florida, FAU and Miami. He was also a head coach at two local high schools, American and Edison.
With the Bell hiring, MacIntyre has reinforced the need for coaches who know their way around South Florida high schools, considered the most talent-rich base in the nation.
Earlier this month, MacIntyre hired Fort Lauderdale native Eric Hickson as running backs coach. Hickson spent the past couple of years as running backs coach for the Miami Hurricanes. While there, he helped sign star running backs Jaylan Knighton, Don Chaney Jr. and Thad Franklin.
MacIntyre also hired David Yost as the quarterback coach/offensive coordinator; Jovan Dewitt as defensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach; and Ricky Brumfield as special-teams coordinator.
The rest of the Panthers’ defensive staff includes George Frazier (defensive line) and Nate Taye (safeties). The rest of the offensive staff includes Jay MacIntylre (wide receivers), Joshua Eargle (tight ends) and Greg Austin (o-line).
FIU also has former Miami Northwestern, FIU and NFL cornerback Anthony Gaitor working as an off-field quality control coach.
