Year 2 of the Butch Davis era at FIU is officially in the works.

The Panthers began their fall practice regiment Friday at FIU’s on-campus practice fields as they prepare for their Sept. 1 season opener against Indiana.

FIU is coming off its best season since joining Conference-USA. The school’s 8-5 record in Davis’ inaugural year marked FIU’s third winning season since starting football in 2004 and its first since joining Conference-USA in 2013.

Now, the goal is to see if the Panthers can match or even exceed last year’s success. FIU is predicted to finish fourth in the C-USA East behind defending conference champion FAU, Marshall and Middle Tennessee.
