Butch Davis, FIU Panthers set to open camp on Saturday
The FIU football team beings preparations for the 2017 season with the start of fall practices on Saturday.
Fall training camp will consist of 20 sessions leading up to the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 21.
The 2017 regular season will kick off on Thursday, Aug. 31, when the Panthers travel to Orlando to take on the UCF Knights. Kickoff from Spectrum Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
FIU's 2017 schedule is highlighted with games against Boca Raton Bowl and 2016 Conference USA champion Western Kentucky, Popeyes Bahamas Bowl champion Old Dominion, AutoNation Cure Bowl participant UCF, Foster Farms Bowl participant Indiana, Hawaii Bowl participant Middle Tennessee and Gildan New Mexico Bowl participant UTSA.
In addition, the Panthers will face Rice, Charlotte, Marshall and Florida Atlantic as well as first-time opponents Alcorn State and Tulane.
